Source: MCL 257.1401 through 257.1410 (New Motor Vehicle Warranty Act)

Michigan's New Motor Vehicle Warranty Act requires a manufacturer to replace a new motor vehicle or refund the purchase price if either the same defect has been subject to repair four times, or the vehicle has been out of service for repairs for 30 or more days, during the first year following delivery (or the warranty term, if shorter). The Act covers new passenger cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, and vans purchased or leased in Michigan for personal, family, or household use, including vehicles transferred to a subsequent owner during the warranty. It does not cover buses, trucks other than pickups, motor homes, motorcycles, or off-road vehicles. At the time of the Law Revision Commission report reviewed, leased vehicles were NOT explicitly covered by the statute's text, though the Commission was recommending an amendment to add lease coverage - a human reviewer should confirm whether that amendment was adopted.
