Repair-shop disputes generally come down to the same things: the written estimate, what was actually authorized, and the final invoice. Organize those facts and get a free letter outline; the full demand letter is in the $39 Case Pack.

Under Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission rules, if a customer specifically requests one and the anticipated repair cost exceeds $125, a repair supplier must provide a written itemized estimate in advance, separately listing labor and parts. The supplier may charge a capped fee for preparing the estimate itself - up to $5 for an estimate under $200, up to $10 for one over $200. It is an unfair and deceptive practice to charge more than 25% above the estimate without the customer's oral or written authorization for the additional cost. Louisiana's 25% overage tolerance is notably more permissive than the 10% figure common in most other states.
